Sport minister Elzbieta Jakubiak presented Poland's Parliament with a report on the state of preparations for Euro 2012 Soccer Championships. According to the report, one billion zlotys (360 million US dollars) will be spent to build a national stadium in Warsaw and 400 million zlotys (144 million US dollars) to build each of the three regional stadiums needed to host the event. Also, 30 billion zlotys or 10.8 billion USD would be spent on the preparations in the years 2008-2012, mainly on the construction of roads.
Jakubiak also urged the lower house of the Parliament – the Sejm- to pass a special legislation that would speed the preparations by shortening of the bureaucratic procedures. It was in April that Poland and Ukraine were selected to co-host the European Soccer Championships in 2012.
